Week 8 Gridley CA

Hey mom!!

Wow it sounds like Hawaii is great!! I LOVED the pictures. Like wow. And the food sounds soooooo good!!! The snow cone thing you explained sounded like something I had in Japan, and I remember it being really good. But man that all sounds great. And it was cool that we were so close together!! Yet still so far... but hey that's all good.

Also, you said you went to pearl Harbor which sounds way cool. But we were talking to someone from one of the wards here, and he said that there was someone in the liberty ward (the English ward) who was one of 3 still living survivors of pearl harbor. So I thought that was cool and that I would share.

Well this week went by pretty fast. There was quite a bit that happened, so lo siento if I'm all over the place. But to start out, I'll talk about the food! :)

So like I said in my last email, I was gonna try to go no sugar. Try. And I did try! But I didn't even make it 2 hours... We were at a members having dinner and then after they brought out the ice cream and cookies. My kryptonite. So I kinda ate the ice cream and the cookies... but I started over again the next day! But then someone got us milkshakes... so basically this is what happened... But I did get it on one day! Friday! WHOOOOO!! But I've decided I like sugar and food too much to care about that that much. I did have some yogurt and mango yesterday tho, so maybe I can substitute that for my ice cream. Idk we'll see. But we're all working on being healthy. I told them I would work out for a net 0. Which means as long as I work out I am gonna eat my milkshakes!

But also, this week we have had no Mexican food... all the white people families have been feeding us, which is great and Ilove them! But right now Ijust really want some sopes or some tacos or papusa. I attempted to make my own quesadilla the other day, but canned beans just aren't the same man... so basically Ithink when I get home I'm just gonna eat straight Mexican food. It's soooo good, so hopefully we get some soon.

And one more food thing. The weird thing I tried this week was peanut butter on a hamburger. It sounds weird and Iwas skeptic, but it is actually WAY GOOD!! Like who would have thought?? SO don't call me weird till you've tried it. But that's it for the food.

But like Imentioned last week, there are 4 hermanas in the house right now, and it is so much fun. Like we all work and do stuff during the day, but like at night to have people to hang out with for a bit and chat with and laugh with it's just so awesome. Like last night Ilaughed so hard I almost peed (don't worry, I held it in). but  it's just such a great time and a great experience to get to know 3 other hermanas so well. We al just laugh and love each other and it's a great time. But also, we were having a problem with the house setup. so it's kinda a small house for 4 people to live in. We had all our desks in the front room, but that made studying hard, cause we would like have 2 conversations going on at one time. So what we did is we moved our desks into the bedrooms, and our beds into the living room. so now we each have our own places to study, and we are all sleeping together in the living room! It's a tight fit, but it works. I'll try to send a pic of it. But to get the beds into the living room, we had to take apart the bed frames, cause it wouldn't fit through the door. so I got to lead in the handy man work, and it was a good time. But now we're all settled in!

On Thursday we went on a slight road trip to paradise! IT sounds fancier than it is. But paradise is just a town about an hour north of Gridley. but sister Petonio had an eye appointment up there, but it was kinda far so we had to get a ride from a member. So all of us piled into the car with Tyler, what a legend, and we headed off! Paradise is so pretty. It has big rolling hills and the weather was so beautiful! but all the trees were burnt... rip... but it was a good time. Again, lots of laughs. and sister Petonio got her glasses which was good.

On Friday we had a lesson with a girl who we have been working with for a bit. Her name is Wendy. She is super awesome!! She was going to be baptized in June, but didn't feel ready yet, so she decided to wait. We hadn't had a lesson with her in quite a bit, and I didn't know her too well, so I was a littler nervous for this lesson. But I really didn't have to be. She is so awesome and super fun! She has so much love for others! But we asked her what her thoughts on baptism were, and she said that she wanted to be baptized, and soon! So now we have another date set for October 13, and we are SO excited for her! She loves this gospel and has been working hard to learn more in seminary and reading the scriptures and going to church. We are SO excited for her! A d that was an awesome day! Sister Feveryear and I were super psyched about that the rest of the day!

But Wendy has a twin sister, Miriam. she was baptized back in June, and she is also so awesome! I know I say that about everyone, but, like, it's true. They are all just so strong and work so hard. Like they do more than I did at that age, and it's just so awesome to see their testimonies grow and to see the light of Christ grow within them! But anyway, Miriam is new to the church and is still like figuring things out kinda. But the other day she told us that she was asked to be a part of the leadership of the youth group! She didn't even know what was a part of that, but she said yes and was super excited to be a part of that! And she also gave the lesson to her young women's group in church on Sunday, and said she loved it and was excited to do it again! That was especially cool to hear, because she can be very shy, so it's cool to see how she has been blessed with confidence as she has continued to grow in the church. But yeah Miriam and Wendy are super awesome!

Yesterday at church we had the primary program which was super awesome! So all the little kids under age 12 got to participate in it! The Spanish branch combined with the English ward, because we don't have enough young kids to have our own Spanish primary. but it was super awesome! I loved hearing all that the kids had to say about their feelings on the topic, which was "I am a Child of God." I loved hearing them all bare testimonies, even if they were only one sentence. They still had a lot of power. And when they sang, you could also feel the excitement they had for what they were singing. They also sang some songs in Spanish which was also super cool! But it was an awesome program and I'm so happy I got to watch and learn from it!

OK, one last thing. So sister Feveryear and I went up to Oroville to work with some of the less active members up there to show the our love and ask if there was like service we could provide for them and just let them know they are still loved and that we miss them. but also, Oroville is a super Skecthy place... like walking around up there, we felt out of place, like we were too high class, which is saying a lot cause I am not high class at all. But we went to this one address and when we got there is was super sketch. like a boarded up house with trash all over the front yard. so we decided not to go in, cause we didn't want to die, and cause it didn't look like anyone lived there. But yeah that about describes Oroville. They have some lovely smells of weed in places. but we don't go up to Oroville too much, so we don't have to worry about that too much.

But yeah that was the week! It was a good week! Lots of fun with my companion, The other hermanas, the members of the church, and the people I am teaching! I know i talk about the people a lot, but they are what make the mission worth it! When I'm not feeling up to working or I'm feeling like it's a lot of work, I just turn my thoughts away from myself and towards other people and it helps every time! But anyways, hope you have a splendid week! love and miss you!
