Week 7 Gridley CA

Hey mom!!

Wow sounds like a great week for you guys! That is soooo cool about Arielle's job! I bet she loves it! How much does it pay? Also what are her classes/teachers? And it's fun to see Bella growing up and doing crazy stuff! And way to go with field hockey!! Please let everyone know how much I love them!

And idk what is going on with the fires... they are a lot more North of me. There is still some smoke around us, but it really isn't too bad..

Well this was a very long week. At least it felt that way. I think it's just cause of all the adjusting. But it was still a good week!

First thing that happened was the actual transfers on Tuesday. Those were not fun... It was really sad to leave my buddy. And tbh, I was not looking forward to having a new companion. Like in my head I was just thinking to myself "I'm just not gonna be her friend and that's the way it's gonna be." but like always, God had a different plan... but it ended up being way good! My companion's name is Sister Feveryear and she is super nice! She has been out just a little under a year. But we have gotten along really well. She speaks softly, but that's fine. Just more room for me to be obnoxious I guess... but she is a really great missionary and she is super kind and fun to talk to! She is also likes to run, so that's fun we get to do that! And she is also super healthy... Like really healthy. So that'll help me be more healthy hopefully. Also I realize I eat a lot. But it's just too dang good to not! But next week she said she is gonna go no sugars, and I said that I would try with her. We'll see how far I make it. I'll do my best, but idk man. But yeah she is awesome!

But along with transfers came 2 other hermanas into our house! It's kinda a small house, so we're kinda tight, but it's super fun! There is always something going on! And they all like to cook and are good at it. So like for lunches and stuff they'll make actual food, and then I'm just chilling there with my lovely sandwich. That is what I call top chef material right there. but it's been super fun to have them all here! The other night we ended up staying up til 11, which was kinda bad, but it was fun. We were just chatting, but that was the latest I have stayed up in 3 months. Thats kinda really crazy. cause like before the mish (the mission) earliest I would go to bed was at like midnight.

But anyway, continuing with transfers, I was really worried for them. Like I was leading the area for not ` other missionary, but 3 others. and I was worried I didn't know the people, the area, or the language well enough. But it all turned out really well, and I was able to see great miracles from the transfer already!

First, I felt super comfortable with all the members and the people we were teaching. And I was able to feel their love for me. It was super cool to have that happen and feel good about that. But then the next miracle was with knowing the place. I was able to give directions very well and know my way around. This is a huge surprise, Cause I am awful with directions. But there were little to no u-turns made!! Go me. The next miracle was with the language. I feel like I am able to better understand what is being said. Not perfectly. Like I don't quite understand every word, but I understand enough to know what they are saying, and I am also able to respond pretty well and without too much worrying about what I will say. Like it just flows out pretty well. I am still not even close to fluent. not in the slightest, but it was fun to see that miracle from transfers. My biggest thing about this transfer was that I just wanted to know why this all had happened, and why my trainer was moved. but I have already been able to see the good that has come from it. Like I feel so much more confident in my actions and my role as a missionary. So while it was hard, its been good. But the last miracle, well the last one I'll share, was that I went running for the first time in 6 weeks, and we ran 2 miles and I did not die! Wow. Milagros. But running was super fun to do again actually. So hopefully we'll be able to continue doing that. And hopefully I won't remember how much I hate running.

But this week we mostly did a lot of meeting with the members so that Sister Feveryear can get to know them all, so that has been fun. The one fam that I'm gonna talk about today is the Roques. The mom, Karina, and the older daughter, Gaby, are members. The dad, Gabriel, we are working with , and we hope he will be baptized soon, because he will be able to receive so many blessings from that, and his family will too. But we went over to their house a few times, and every time I go over I just leave so happy. Like they are just amazing and lovely people. I would not mind being adopted into that family. Karina is just so great. She Called us over for help preparing a lesson she was giving in church, but honestly she did not need our help. she had basically everything done and it was great! But she is so awesome. and then we got to talk and hang out with the for a bit, and we found out that Gaby was trying out for her student council, and she was really nervous. but then the other day we found out she made it! Like I was so excited and happy for her, and I have only known her for not even 2 months. It's just crazy the love for the people here. I really can't even explain it, but they are all so amazing.

The next event of the week though was the fiesta!! It was on Saturday and we came early to help set up, but it was so much fun!! It was the Spanish branch and the Hmong (a dialect of Chinese) branch. It was cool to have them there as well and get to meet other people. But there were 3 different languages flying around which was crazy. Spanish, English, and Hmong. and I was able to speak 2 of the 3. Like what??? That was so crazy to think about. And also it was funny to see the difference in cultures. Like the Hmong arrived 20 minutes early, and all the Spanish people arrived 30 minutes late, which is usual for Spanish culture. but I just thought that was funny. But while at the fiesta we had food and soccer and it was great! There was Spanish food and Hmong food and it was all so good. nothing too crazy. But I did eat a lot. And while we were playing soccer, there were these two little girls, Gaby and Abby, who ran up and soaked Sister Feveryear and I with sponges. It was kinda funny and fun to see they were so comfortable with us and they wanted to hang out with us. again, the best part of this fiesta was the people. Like we got to see so many members and it was just awesome. We could talk with them and just get to know them better. But I just left feeling so happy and lucky to be a part of this branch and to have the opportunity to get to know all these amazing people. So the fiesta was probably the highlight of my week.

And then when we got home from the fiesta, It got even better cause I had a package from my momma and it was filled with candy corn!!! I was literally thinking about them the other day, so I was SOOO happy to see them. Maybe a little too happy. Cause I ate a whole bag in one day... whoops. But I shared a bit too. Sister Petonio had never tried candy corn before, so I was very excited to introduce her to candy corn. Gotta spread the love, you know man?

But one last thing. On Sunday I had to translate the service... it at least wasn't in front of everyone, but like they gave people headsets and I had a microphone and i sat in the back and translated. So like they were talking and while they were talking I just had to go and translate. So that was rough to have to listen and talk and remember. But I think it went not too bad. I was at least translating into English, so that made it a lot easier. but yeah, that was a fun experience. Maybe when i get back I'll just start a full time job as a translator. Ha ha yeah no... that would be muy mal.

But yeah that was my week! It was long and there was a lot going on, but it was still good! I'm excited to keep working and spread the joy and happiness this gospel brings! I hope you have a wonderful week! I pray for all my buddies at home everyday! love you! miss you!
